The International Young Leaders Organization (IYLO) and Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) are pleased to invite you to a virtual special event on   “Our Common Agenda’s Commitment to Youth and Future Generations: A New UN Youth Architecture”, in conversation with young leaders from the International Young Leaders Council (IYLC). This event will take place on Monday, 18 April 2022, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT / 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. CET on the margins of the UN ECOSOC Youth Forum.

The International Young Leaders Council (IYLC) was initiated in February 2021 by independent young leaders during the Our Common Agenda Young Thinkers consultations with the aim to include youth and future generations at the heart of the United Nations and its intergovernmental processes.

This special event at the UN ECOSOC Youth Forum will focus on the importance of creating inclusive, meaningful and effective UN youth engagement structures and emphasizing the key role of intergenerational leadership in the implementation of the UN Secretary-General’s Our Common Agenda and the Decade of Action. Speakers will highlight the necessity for intergenerational equity and discuss the importance of including youth and future generations at the heart of all UN intergovernmental processes.

Furthermore, the event will present the International Young Leaders Council (IYLC). IYLC serves as an independent global youth council working to support the implementation of the Our Common Agenda, in particular the establishment of the new UN Youth Office and the UN Youth Council, as one of IYLO’s recommendations to the UN Secretary-General. In addition, IYLC proposes the creation of the UN Youth Assembly and that the ECOSOC Youth Forum be reformed into an intergovernmental UN Commission on Youth and Future Generations to enable more inclusive, transparent and effective youth participation in UN deliberative and decision-making processes within the UN General Assembly, the Security Council and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and their respective subsidiary bodies.

During the event, the IYLC will present a Declaration on Commitment to Youth and Future Generations and call for the establishment of the Secretary-General Trust Fund for Youth and Future Generations.

This event is organized by the International Young Leaders Organization (IYLO), with the support of Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP).
